Palazzo Rivalta Paganelli

Palazzo Rivalta - Paganelli a San Piero in Bagno

The Palazzo Rivalta-Paganelli, on the airy piazza of S. Piero in Bagno, is one of the works that the engineer-architect Cesare Spighi (1854-1929) - one of the most important technicians who worked in Tuscany between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries - he left in a span of fifty years in the territory of Bagno di Romagna, his homeland of adoption. As in the cemeteries of Bagno and S. Piero, in the Prevostale church and in the Palazzo Scholastica di S.Piero in Bagno, the designer's eclecticism favors models of medieval derivation with explicit references to Florentine architecture: here too there are architectural and ornamental elements of late-thirteenth-century flavor (portal, windows, loggia, coat of arms).

The chromatic scansion of the façade, half with bosses and half with bricks, is enriched by three slender balconies on the main floor, two of which are on the lateral wings, the central third protruding in correspondence with the trifora which shows, at the top, the date : "ANNO DOMINI MCMV". On the third floor, among elegant windows, a large noble coat of arms in sandstone. The building, finished in 1905, appears to be free from the context and evokes - with the broken floor of the façade, the heavy gutters, the mighty base in drafts - a fortress that breaks the compact scenic backdrop of sixteenth and seventeenth century buildings and buildings. piazza, exceeds them in height, almost to affirm a break with the past and its autonomy. The large rooms inside are frescoed with elegant Art Nouveau motifs, unusual for this area, and adorned with valuable artifacts in stone and wrought iron.
