Annunciazione di Francesco Rosselli, 1585
Annunciazione, di Francesco Rosselli (1585)
In the third chapel on the right of the Basilica of S. Maria Assunta di Bagno there is an oil on canvas depicting the Annunciation, with the Madonna flanked by Saints Girolamo, Giovannino, Elisabetta (?) And Francesco, surmounted by the Eternal Father in the glory of angels . The work, signed: "FCO.RLI 1585", is attributed to Francesco Rosselli (Florence 1448 - 1513 circa), a Florentine painter of the second floor, who worked faithfully following the teaching of Alessandro Allori. The iconography is taken from the fresco of the SS. Anunziata in Florence executed in the fifteenth century. This image, of great devotion, met great popularity in Tuscany at the end of the sixteenth century, so as to be continually reproduced, and also inserted in more complex compositions.
The Basilica of S. Maria Assunta is in Piazza Ricasoli, in Bagno di Romagna.
