Maestà delle Galvane

Maestà delle Galvane

It rises along the mule track that connected the parish of Ridracoli to that of S. Paolo in Alpe (Sentiero CAI 233). It is in the shape of a tower, impressive and very beautiful, with a four-water roof, the sandstone niche, finely engraved and inserted into the wall. Already documented in the late eighteenth century, it served as a station for the spring "Rogazioni" of the parish of S. Martino di Ridracoli. It takes its name from a collapsing farm just beyond, and is similar to that of the "dei Ronconi" - dated 1784 - which is later on, on the border between the former parishes of Ridracoli and S. Paolo in Alpe.

Getting here

BY CAR: from S. Piero in Bagno follow the SP. 26. up to S. Sofia (15 km); then you follow the SP. 4 to Isola (4 km) where you turn left on the SP. 112 which reaches Ponte a Ridracoli in 13 km. Then you have to go on foot: you cross the Bidente and you go next to the IDRO Museum and then on the mule track that leads to S. Paolo in Alpe (CAI Path 233): you meet the majesty after less than 1 km.
