Bagno di Romagna - Assisi
Bagno di Romagna - Assisi : 95 km (FC)
Assisi owes its worldwide fame to Saint Francis. The double Gothic Basilica was built over his tomb; a shrine of faith and art that can be admired for its frescoes by Cimabue, Giotto, Simone Martini and Lorenzetti.
The visit to the city starts from the Basilica, by which it is dominated. The harmony of the squares and medieval streets, the fortress, the intimacy of the smaller churches (San Rufino, Santa Chiara...) and the wonderful shops are an invitation to enjoy it to the full, in complete tranquillity. The Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli, on the plain below Assisi, is of great interest. It encloses the Porziuncola, built by Saint Francis himself. The Eremo delle carceri and the Rocca Maggiore are also a must on your itinerary.
