Crucifix of Forgiveness, 15th century

A polychrome, wooden Cross dating from the fifteenth century hangs in the fifth chapel on the right-hand side of the Basilica of Bagno di Romagna. The work is characterised by a raw and intense realism and shows Northern European influences; the restoration undertaken in 1990 has brought to light the quality of this work. During the centuries-old "Day of Forgiveness" that is celebrated on the second Friday in March, this cross is carried in solemn procession through the streets of Bagno di Romagna.
