Maestà di Corzano
Maestà di Corzano
Located on the hill of Corzano, along the mule track that climbs from S. Piero in Bagno, it is a valuable artefact in pietra serena, the work of local stonecutters. On the finely worked niche and open on three sides, resting on squared blocks, the client is reported: "IN MEMORY / OF HIS DEATHS / GUIDO NUTI F.F. / A.D. 1955". On the edge of the tabernacle, those traveling along the mule-track lay small stones: a custom that refers to the ancient meaning of the pilgrimage, when each stone deposited was a symbol of the pains or sins that each one wore and who wanted to wash away with the fatigue of the journey.
BY CAR: from Piazza Allende in S. Piero in Bagno take Via Verdi and then take the left fork towards Corzano (2 km). ON FOOT: it can also be reached on the tracks and pathways that start in both Bagno di Romagna and S. Piero in Bagno (CAI Trail 193 and Val di Bagno Trek).
