Ponte sul Bidente di Ridracoli

Bridge over the Bidente River at Ridracoli

This single-arch stone bridge is one of the most interesting constructions at Ridracoli. In 1816 the district engineer from Rocca S. Casciano, Giulio Gentili, drew up two plans for a bridge over the Bidente River at Ridracoli: one was a wooden bridge, like the previous one that had been destroyed that year by flood waters, while the other was a low-arched stone bridge. The local population put pressure on the Municipality of Bagno di Romagna to choose the latter design, which was more expensive but would last longer.

The bridge was built between 1830 and 1831 by Michele Giovannetti, the road contractor for the Ridracoli area. In 1895 it was partly rebuilt. The Mulino di Sotto (Lower Mill) stands on the right bank, while on the other side there is the well-known "Osteria del Terrore" that leads to Palazzo Giovannetti. The bridge is closed to vehicles.
