Casa Giannelli in Rio Salso
Casa Giannelli in Rio Salso
The large manor house was built in 1892 by Giovanni Giannelli (1841-1905): a classic manor house, finely finished, which towers over the ridge where the ancient nucleus of Rio Salso is located.
The "Palazzo" as it was called, from the pink plaster that distinguished the many properties of the Giannelli family, became the reference point for the social life of the village: it was a tavern, school, inn ... In 1913 the oven was built in the square in front of it and the cistern fed by rainwater. After the earthquakes of 1918-19, the four-water roof was demolished, the stages and the upper floor were modified, taking on its current appearance. Abandoned like the whole nucleus, in the eighties of the twentieth century it was renovated and used as a hotel and restaurant. The structure is currently closed to the public.
