Montegranelli
Montegranelli
Most of Montegranelli lay on the top of a stone pick (726 m high) where the high Savio valley can be fully admired. Here is the church – first documented in 1460 but probably older – which was totally rebuilt in 1932, after the earthquakes of 1918: in the interior there is an anonymous paintings of the Virgin Mary and Saints which dates back to 1708. Few houses, a restaurant and a fir wood frame the ruin of the Count Guidi from Romena castle: count Bandino gave birth to Beato Carlo from Montegranelli (1330-1417) who in 1405 established in Fiesole the Congregation of Saint Girolamus. The remaining population still lives and farm in the countryside.
